The Royal Thai Monastery, known locally as Wat Thai, is one of the most visually stunning temples in Bodh Gaya. With its gleaming white and gold Thai-style architecture, golden spires, and beautifully decorated interiors housing a large golden Buddha image, the monastery is a landmark of the international Buddhist community in Bodh Gaya.
The Thai Monastery was established with support from the Royal Thai Government and the Thai Buddhist community as a place of worship and accommodation for Thai pilgrims visiting the sacred site. The complex features classic Thai Buddhist architecture with multi-tiered golden roofs, intricate tile work, and a large gold-plated standing Buddha. The monastery maintains close ties with Thai royalty — members of the Thai royal family have visited on several occasions. The complex includes a main temple hall, meditation rooms, monks' quarters, and beautifully maintained gardens. Thai Buddhist monks reside here throughout the year and conduct daily puja services.
